If the Drilling permit is approved by the Department of Natural Recourses, the state agency that regulates the oil and gas industry, fracking could start in St. Tammany Parish which is sits atop the the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale. The local government and community groups are challenging the hydraulic fracturing industry from drilling in in St. Tammany becuase with multiple lawsuits.
