Oct, 14, 2016, Eric Freeman, the EMS director at Robeson Community College, acting as a medic at a storm shelter at Purnell Swett High in Pembroke, North Carolina set up after Hurricane Matthew’s flood waters inundated Lumberton, North Carolina. The shelter has been run by volenteers and is now transitioning to becoming a Red Cross Shelter. Freeman said that though Red Cross shelters don't have medical services, they plan to keep them open at the Purnell Swett High Shelter. There are about 600 people staying at the shelter.
