5/24/2010 Brown Pelicans, Louisiana's State bird on Cat Island, a barrier island in Plaquemines Parish, that was exposed to BP oil that washed up on the shore. Protective boom was set up after the fact by subcontractors hired by BP to protect the bird rookery on the island, however it didn't stop the oil from contaminating the island.
