Joe McKnight Memorial 03.jpg
Makeshift-memorial for former NFL player Joe McKnight who was shot to death by Ronald Gasser at the intersection of Behrman Highway and Holmes Boulevard in Terrytown. Gasser, was released by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office after questioning with no charges pressed prompting outrage. Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office described the killing as a "road rage" incident. In another road rage incident in New Orleans last year, Cardell Hayes shot another former NFL player, Will Smith to death. Like Gasser he waited for the police and explained what happened. Unlike Gasser, Hayes is African American, and has been in Jail since the shooting pending trial. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand insists his decision to let Gasser go home had nothing to do with race.
