Members of the Concerned Citizens group of St Johns gather on June 6, 2017 Lutcher Louisana, a LDEQ permit hearing .The new owner of the Noranda Alumina plant is seeking a permit that will allow the company to emit up to 1,500 pounds of Mercury into the air. People who spoke against the permit made it clear adding Mercury into the air was not something they welcome. No one from the company came to speak on the company's behalf of its proposed expansion.
