Flambeaux carriers , part of a tradition that goes back to slaves and free African Americans who carried flames to light the way of Mardi Gras parade, get ready to carry flames in Proteus. Mardi Gras 2011 in New Orleans is expected to be have the largest attendance of all time due to the dates overlapping with college spring break. Mardi Gras also known as Carnival begins on or after Epiphany and ending on the day before Ash Wednesday.
