  • Man collecting samples from the third reported fish kill in Plaquimines Parish's Bayou Robinson following the BP oil disaster, so tests can be done to see if it is tide to the Spill. The predominant species found floating on the surface were menhaden, also called pogie, mixed with crab and catfish. Fish kills in Louisiana along the Gulf Coast are a common occurrence at the end of the summer however their frequency and scale the summer of the oil disaster are unprecedented and until testing is done it is not possible to rule out rule out oil or dispersant factoring into the cause of low oxygen levels in the water that suffocates the fish.

Billy Nungesser,Plaquimines Parish president who has been the loudest voice fighting for faster and greater action all along, acknowledged it is good news to get word the well is finale "dead'. However he stressed he will fight BP and the government till the end to make sure his parish has been made whole again as promised.

The beaches of Grand Isle were cleaned two days before President Obama's visit: however, the oil returned and the workers that were around for the presidential visit were much fewer. The workers, private contractors hired by BP take more breaks then they work, as oil washes a shore. Day 46 after the BP oil leak began, the negative effects of the spill are playing out as a worst case scenario. The oil has contaminated the marshes and washed up on the shores of bird estuaries.
