  • Aligators  in Davis Pond, a body of water that is part of a freshwater diversion project that allows water from the Mississippi in the marsh. Aligators gather at the Davis Pond Freshwater Diversion Structure because it is plentifuly with fish. The project  will imitate historic spring floods, providing a controlled flow of fresh water, sediments and nutrients from the Mississippi River to the Barataria Bay estuary.

  • An aerial view of Plaquemines Parish reveals the disappearing remains of its coastal lands.The Louisiana coast loses a football field’s worth of land every 38 minutes. This staggering rate of land loss has been brought on by climate change,  subsidance. and coastal erosion accelerated by human activities, including water diversion projects and damage done by the oil and gas industry.

Commercial establishments such as the fast food chain,  Waffle House are indicators of the recovery that is still far from complete.
