On December 27, 2021, the Meraux Pipeline, owned by Collins Pipeline Co., ruptured and spilled about 315,000 gallons of diesel fuel into wetlands and ponds a few miles southeast of New Orleans.PBF Energy is the parent company of Collin Pipeline and owns and operated PBF’s Chalmette refinery five miles from the spill site. State regulators left the public in the dark for weeks after a major diesel fuel spill near New Orleans. The spill came from a pipeline owned by a company the state had just granted a permit to a nearby project.
