September 7 Braithwaite, Louisiana : Toxic chemicals marked with a neon X by the National Guard to aid in the cleanup, washed up on the Eastbank of the Mississippi River levee by the surge caused by Hurricane Isaac. Plaquemines Parish was flooded by a surge that flooded some homes with over 12ft. on the east and west bank of the Mississippi River. Hurricane Isaac caused over 2 billion dollars of damage despite being rated as a category 1 storm.
