BP oil on Pelican in LA01.jpg
Brown Pelican covered in oil on Barataria Bay of the coast of Grand Terre Island found by members of the Sierra Club on a trip to survey the effects of the oil spill. Work has been going on on Grand Terre Island to fight coastal erosion since before the oil leak crisis. The Brown Pelican, Louisiana State bird was taken of the endangered species act in November of 2009. The Pelican was found on the 45 day after the BP oil leak began when the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded in the gulf of Mexico.
